Bet365 Boss Among World's Highest-Paid Executives At $281M Salary
Denise Coates, founder of bet365, remains among the highest-paid executives on the planet. Results released at the beginning of the year reveal that Coates took an income of ₤ 221 million in the year ending March 2023 - along with a further ₤ 50 million in dividends.
Coates' salary, which to approximately $281 million, increased by $10 million compared to that of the previous year, regardless of the reality that the business reported pre-tax losses of $77 million (₤ 60.2 million).
Coates is officially the highest-paid woman in Britain, and sits amongst a few of the best-paid executives on the world. Obviously, Coates isn't just entitled to her outstanding income, either. She also maintains a 50% stake in the service, which generates large incomes every year.
More money, more criticism
The amazing success of Denise Coates caused her being crowned the youngest female billionaire in the UK in December 2023. However, some have been crucial of the bet365 founder's income and other rewards, given the economic outlook of the UK at the minute.
"People should have to be rewarded for innovation and success however there's a question of what's reasonable and proportional," Luke Hildyard, executive director of the High Pay Centre, said to CNN.
"Nobody becomes a multi-billionaire in isolation from broader society. In this case, the wealth depends on cash coming out of bettors' pockets, the efforts of countless staff, plus broader elements like people having some non reusable earnings, a protected and dependable web network or all the infrastructure that enters into staging sports events."
bet365 does add to the larger economy, naturally. The business, which has a headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent, now uses more than 7,500 members of staff. It deals with an approximated 90 million consumers yearly.
The Coates family comes in in second location in the rankings of leading UK taxpayers, having contributed $585 million (₤ 460 million) in 2015.
bet365 likewise contributes to charitable causes, notably the Denise Coates Foundation, which received $127 million (₤ 100 million) from bet365 in 2023. The foundation was developed with the objective of promoting charitable purposes anywhere in the world, and disperses funds in assistance of regional, nationwide and global charitable activities.
Coates now has a projected net worth of almost $7 billion, according to Forbes. But concerns are now being asked about whether her huge income, and its substantial boosts, will actually be sustainable in the future.
